It has been identified that several of the trees along State Street in downtown Hastings have died. Due to this, their branches have become weak and could pose a safety hazard to the public. This is especially true during winter months when ice and snow accumulation can add weight to the branches. Hastings DPS intends to prevent this possible hazard by removing the branches and tops from the dead trees. This work will occur only in the morning between the hours of 7:00AM to 9:00AM and is scheduled to begin Wednesday November 6th. During the morning work hours only, the parking spaces and the sidewalks in the affected areas will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The immediate goal is to remove the branches and tops of the dead trees. In the future, the trunks and stumps of the dead trees will also be removed.
